Luk went to an assessment last week with an Occupational Therapist and a Physio Therapist. They were woefully lacking in adoption issues and orphanage delays. They just saw delays. Now they want him in speech and receiving home care. Arg. Wish we hadn't bothered going. They have said he's at a two year old level and his gait is wrong so he needs orthotics and braces. Sigh. I think the surgeons and Drs he sees should make those decisions. We think he's making forward progress and if we do the math of one month lost for every three in the orphanage then he's close. We haven't had him equal time as the SWI either so not quite time to panic.
That being said. I have been pushing him all day to do things for himself and talking lots about doing things for himself. He's not totally on board. He really is quite happy to let us cater to him. So today he did his teeth, washed his hands and face and brushed his hair on his own. He can just barely reach the tap and there were a lot of evil looks while I watched and gave instructions. Later I made him get his own banana yogurt and spoon. Funny watching him open the fridge. Puts one foot and his left hand on the cupboards and pulls with his right hand. Just now he wanted a snack so I told him to go get an orange from the fridge. He did it and sat and carefully peeled the whole thing making sure there wasn't a single bit of stringy white rind left. Too cute. Then he was a disaster eating it. Gagging on a piece of rind in his mouth. Trying to bite into the side of each piece. Juice running down his face and off his hands. Poor kid. Threw out the whole destroyed orange and Eric cleaned him up. Usually I peel and cut each piece in half and pop them in his mouth.
