Diagnosis

Luk is a very smart little boy.  Grin.  It's official...the professional said so.

No labels.  No learning challenges.  Luk scores on the high side of normal across the board.  He lost points for speed and averaged out as normal for his age.  Stronger in reading and comprehension than math.  Memory is normal.  His language is above normal. He has no stress, anxiety, worry, fear or anger.  No behavioural issues.

He was tired...he did require more breaks than normal.  However he did the work happily and seriously.  No coaxing required.

The only surprise of the day was that he has no hand strength.  Like he's a 1 from 0 - 100.  They test his arm strength at Children's every six months but never his hands.  The muscles in his whole body are basically 4's with the odd 3 (4 being high and one being very weak).  The prescription is Lego and play dough...so just continuing on as usual.  He will likely need more scribbing as he goes up in grades.

I was dreading the meeting, sad that Eric wasn't there, braced and resigned for bad news.  So I was pleased to hear all good news for a change.

Then we braved the city traffic and celebrated with Mizithra cheese and browned butter sauce at the Spaghetti Factory.  Luk's favorite meal.  Then rush traffic out.  Phew.  Long day.  Tough drive.  I'm not a city girl, I don't know how Victoria people drive in that mess every day.  If there was road construction today, we hit it.

Sunday

Lili and Fei told us they wanted to do something with our first whole family day in July.  We have kittens and a puppy so taking off for the whole day is difficult.  We ended up doing the Crofton Walk with Gramma.  Then out to Wings for their Sunday night buffet.  A steal at $67 for 7 of us.  Wild.  Need to do that one more often.
The kittens at a pet showing in a pet store.

Kai built them a house, only one fits in it at a time.

Three cuddle buddies.

Bed time little kitties, he only had four, the fifth put himself to bed.

Mom found childhood friends on our walk.

Luk wasn't using his chair so the dogs did ;)

Sasha digs in blankets, we thought she might like sand...she did not.  Just stood there lifting her feet up.

Too hot to even try rolling on the hill.

Secret chats.

Kin park and a wee visit with DM and Al after dinner.

Neuropsychological Evaluation for Luk

2 year wait and we're finally here.  A full day assessment at Queen Alexandra.  It's intense.

They asked had we been here before?  Bawhahaha.  FCC picnics, Lili's spine clinic every six months for many years, Luk's wheelchair clinics and specialized orthopedics and leg braces and finally Kai's neuropsychological assessment s few months ago.  So...ya...pretty familiar with the facility.  It is pretty here.  One of my favorite beaches.

Eric and I brought Luk yesterday for day one.  The day was exhausting. Today Eric stayed home with Kai.  Lili is working. Fei came to watch Luk during the parent feed back at the end of today and Jia came to keep Fei company until then.  Phew.
Break yesterday.  He was in good spirits.

This morning...tired from yesterday.
Fingers crossed he can make it through the day!

Fostering Kittens

Five little critters moved into our bathroom today.  They're off to their first pet showing on Saturday.  Then we hope someone falls in love and applies for one or all of them ;)  These are fine looking babies.  Beautiful markings.  Gorgeous faces.  Not rescued with a horrible past but relinquished.  All of them are easily held and they all used the litter box immediately and were playing within  minutes.

Jia says it feels like we ran away with the prize.  Lots of fun around here.

Miss Sasha loves going to work...she owns the couch.

When all your sibs have better things to do and you get dinner out and alone time with the parents.  We look happier about it than Kai but he did have a nice time.

Catching Up

Albi picked Jia up today in his Gelato truck.  She was pretty excited about that.  Off to see Max
This toy mouse chirps...she loves it.

Sasha taught herself fetch....too cute.

Eric's driveway project is well underway.  Looking beautiful.   Too nice for cars!

These two were off to an outdoor movie last night.
Little Foot.  They liked it but were cold.

Stocking Creek

We took off for an adventure day.  We started out looking for blueberries.  On route we found Stocking Creek Farm.  Never been there.  We had a great time picking.  The owner was great. The bushes were dripping in giant berries.  Hands down the best we've ever tasted.  Kids all picked :)

She wore her glasses!

Kai ate quite a few while picking ;)

Sasha has a bliss nap in the warm morning sun.

We stopped at the Nanaimo River rest stop.  There was a lady there with a horse trailer and a flat tire.  Eric was talking to her.  Max asked if she had a horse in the trailer.  She did.  A retired race horse named Taloche.  He retired at 4, was rescued versus slaughtered.  He's 11 now and he goes camping and trail riding with the lady we met.  She had all of the kids in the trailer to pet him.  They fed him blueberries.  Which he loved.  We even filled a bowl for her to take camping.  As we were leaving she told us she was camping behind Stocking Creek.  What?!  Weird.  Never heard of it and there was two encounters in one day.  We got in the car and talked about how weird that was.

We have to keep our eye on Kai, honestly he is always doing such odd and unpredictable things.  I told her he was super special so she would stay close...he was grabbing for the horses private parts.  What?!  Why?? Then he was asking lots of questions but she didn't understand him.  Oy.

Next was sandcastles in Parksville.  Time at the water park.  Then to Coombs for ice cream.  Kids were all tired so we headed home.  Plan was to drop Sasha at home, pick up Lili and meet friends ( Max's parents) for dinner.  I texted a time line and she texted back "just leaving Stocking Creek Park".  Seriously!  Crazy.

They wouldn't let me carry Sasha in so one of the volunteers offered to hold her.  Was weird to leave her but she had so much fun with the puppy showing her off.  Sasha didn't care she was happy to have attention lavished on her.

The boys played together in the water park for two hours.  They had so much fun they skipped lunch!

Too cute.

A t-shirt for Sasha from Ali Express.  So much fun for .93 cents.
