Lots of visiting for Luk

He took to all of our friends really quickly and was happy to be out and about.

Shannon made Luk a diamond quilt.  Colors are great in his room.

Kissy Boy Nelson.  Seriously CUTE.

Jia and Luk both look so thrilled.  Luk can't even move he's so bundled.  He gets cold so fast, just like Lili used to.

Luk and Dagen meeting for the first time.  Destined to be best of friends, they just don't know it yet.

First carousel ride for Luk.  Couldn't let them on animals, they couldn't move or hold on with all of their layers :)

We ventured out on the weekend.  Went to Nicole's on Sat. there were four fcc families, 9 kids.  Luk had a great time.  He was a bit scared for a few minutes and then he was ready to start walking towards who ever would catch him.  He was pretty free with his kisses too.  Not the greatest sign for attachment to us but still soooo cute.  We were with families we'll see often so no real concern.  Will have to watch him that he isn't trying to kiss strangers and casual acquaintances!  Once he had a gander at the food laid out on the table he made it clear that he didn't want to leave it, so Eric sat him down at the table.  Ended up being three men and Luk all sitting together to eat.  Too cute.  Late night.  Got to discover that Fei is quite allergic to lanolin in wool.  Good to know.  Yikes, did she ever swell.  Antihistamine and some ice and she was good to go.

Sunday we were pleased to find that if Luk stays up he will sleep in.  Yay!  All four kids slept until 10am.  Then we were forward motion to head to Shannon's for an afternoon play and early dinner.  Kids had a great time.  Jia in particular was thrilled to have Kalum all to herself.  Dagen was trying to play with them but they kept ditching him.  Once Luk can walk it will even out.

Then we met Catherine and family at Butchart.  Freezing cold but not raining so it was all good.  Had a great walk and nice visit.  It was Lili and Anna's Gotcha day so it was nice for them to see each other.   Going to Butchart was Lili's pick for her day.  She wanted spaghetti too, so we had that yesterday.

Monday was my flex day, so Eric and I took the littles to a Service Canada office to apply for Luk's SIN number.  Has been a huge deal in the past, so I wanted Eric there as my muscle.  He ended up having to take Jia away and so missed all the fun.  Had a lady that was just not nice.  Got to argue about whether he could have his Canadian name or would be forced to have his Chinese name.  Went around that one a few times.  Then she asked why we didn't adopt from BC.  Gave her some stats, she just said 'huh'.  Then I went back to it and told her three failed domestic attempts.  She didn't ask any more.  Maybe I should start with that next time someone asks that stupid questions.  Yes...there is such a thing as a stupid question.  Intrusive to boot.  Then she said "I guess I have to put you in as his Mom".  AHHHH.  I was also told that she was missing her coffee break and if she'd known we were going to be complicated she would have let someone else deal with us.  All while jiggling Luk on my lap, who just wants to be walking, but can't unless someone holds his hands.  So incredibly frustrating.  Pretty much, 'what a beautiful little boy and how can I help you?' was about the only acceptable things she should have said.  Perhaps 'congratulations'.  It's absolutely amazing how far in the dark ages some people still are about adoption in general.  Oh, and she wanted to tell me an adoption story but got side tracked.  Seems there is always a horrible adoption story gone wrong that accompanies these crazy conversations.   Done venting for now.  Should likely mention that she was at least successful at getting his card in his new name.

Ok, one more small vent.  I've been asking the girls what their role/costume is in the Christmas play.  I've never heard of such disorganization before.  Lili tried out for a part and then the parts just went to three tall kids.   Apparently some of the kids are doing improve.  I can't even imagine what this looks like at an elementary level.  Finally yesterday we got a notice for Fei's class, asking for white shirt, black skirt, white tights and black shoes by tomorrow.  Seriously.  So, I'm off to town after work today to look for white tights in December for a 10 year old.  She hasn't worn white tights since she was six and it's just not a popular color in winter.  Wish me luck.  Luckily she has the rest already.  Still not sure about Lili's.  She's told me but the official paper hasn't come home.  Oh, and secret Santa gifts for dance by tomorrow too.  You all know how much I love shopping.  Sigh.  Would rather be home with the family!

Luk stuff.  He gets stronger every day still.  He is babbling more and more.  He sings when he is in the crib.  We all love listening to him practice his words.  More and more English sounds every day.  He has mastered Da da da daddeee.  He yells to Lili.  Likely because we have to yell her name to get her attention, she lives with ear buds in.  Luk absolutely lites up when he is getting attention from Lili and Fei.  He is already in competition with Jia for food and toys.  He can say 'ahhh, ahhh, ahhh' as loud as she can now.  He says his own name now.  When I point to myself and say 'mama' or to Eric and say 'baba' he shakes his head no.  The only time I hear him say mama now is if he's in the crib awake and is ready to get up but he doesn't call out, just says it quietly and smiles when I get him out.  He wakes up happy.  Still fusses for less than a minute when we put him down.  He is still all about baby mush but will try everything else.  He is drinking water now.  Shakes his head no if we show him a bottle.  It's becoming clear that his left side is much weaker than his right.  Common with SB kids.  He has better control of his bowels than expected.  He pooped on the toilet on Friday.  When I change him he is unable to lift his bum up.  He is still unable to get up from laying down.  On the weekend he went from his back to his side and then struggled to his stomach and finally started to lift up on his elbows.  Still can't get up from sitting but we can all feel the strength coming on that one when we assist him up.  We don't have a medical number yet so still haven't seen anyone.  We're not stressed, he seems really healthy.  He's a doll.  Jia is starting to enjoy him again once in a while as things return to normal.  Well as normal as December can ever get.

Jia has asked for a zombie dog robot for her birthday.  ??   Think she'll like the bike and squinkie playset we got her?  How the heck does she even know what a zombie is.  I was afraid to ask her.  Scooby Doo maybe?
