Cutting Mama's Hair.

Jia has been asking to cut my hair for many months. Today was the day it was feeling just too long.

Fei helped. Then cut it some more. They both did great.

Jia's cut.

Up in the air.

Mom has decided she hates living alone. She's been going back and forth for a few weeks. Staying here most nights. We have no clue what the plan is. Possibly an appartment downstairs. Or an addition. Or a tiny home. So many options. Kids love having Gramma around. I'm pleased with the extra pair of hands helping with homework, dishes and laundry etc.

Eric and I took the littles to Parksville Saturday to go to Demxx. They used to have old wooden doors and windows. Sadly not anymore. Apparently if they come in they sell immediately. Just sussing out ideas for possible changes.

We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner out so it was a real road trip day. It went mostly ok. Kai did get tired of being out and was asking to go home. Then while we were driving he dumped his whole water bottle out in the car. All over his legs, feet, seat, booster and floor. Oy. He thought if he was wet we'd take him home. Didn't work. We took his beloved water bottle away. Eric sopped up the water in the car. Kai was quite distressed about wet sox. Luk and Jia showed us how he did it and he was proud of his actions. We told him too bad he has wet. His eyes were huge with disbelief that we didn't care he was wet. Quite funny really. When we got to dinner he had a really, really hard time walking. Which really was funny. He won't get water in the car for a long time.

Finally checked out a river walk we've been trying to get to for weeks.

We met Winston, an 8 week old Pom.

Fun at the mall.

Salsa dancers at the mall.

Demxx. Shirts were on sale for $2.94 at Superstore. They all wanted it. Their choice to wear them together.

Orange Shirt Day

Having fun with all the orange. Not the point of the day of course. Shrug.

Have to catch up. Moon Festival

We celebrated with friends at the Crofton walk again. Great night. Fun dinner out. Perfect weather. Beautiful moon. Lots of laughs.

Mice

Mom took this picture this morning. The little mice of Jia's that have become 100% mine. They're in serious old age. I look every day to see if they're still alive. I do adore them. Sweetest little creatures ever.

Luk's 7th Birthday

My baby is 7!!

Breakfast of choice. Waffles and an egg. Smoothie, fruit and yogurt added...but not by choice ;)

Making his cupcakes.

Oops, can't bake without an apron. Start again.

Help from Mom

Wontons for dinner. Still his favorite.

Total change of plans! We were headed bowling and saw the circus. Drove over and were able to get tickets. Luk chose to switch his plan. So we all got to go to the circus!! It was so much fun.

Luk was pretty thrilled with the new Birthday plan!

Home for presents and cake.

All of the presents were great but the ferocious fingerling was the thing he wanted the most.

Mid Autumn

We've heard many versions. I liked this one. Plus it's short. Posting for future years. We celebrate with friends tomorrow.

Happy Mid-Autumn!

Chang E Flying to the Moon
The story of Chang E is the most widely accepted tale regarding the moon and the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is said that in ancient times, ten suns existed and the extreme heat made people's lives very difficult. It was the hero Hou Yi, who, owing to his great strength, shot down nine of the ten suns. On hearing of this amazing feat and the hero who performed it, people came from far and wide to learn from him. Peng Meng was among these people. Later, Hou Yi married a beautiful and kind-hearted woman named Chang E and lived a happy life.

One day, Hou Yi came upon Wangmu (the queen of heaven) on the way to meet his old friend. Wangmu presented him an elixir which, if taken, would cause him to ascend immediately to heaven and become a god/goddess. Instead of drinking the potion himself, Hou Yi took it home and presented it to Chang E to keep. Unfortunately, Peng Meng secretly saw Hou Yi give the potion to his wife and three days later, while Hou Yi was out hunting, Peng Meng rushed into the backyard and demanded that Chang E hand over the elixir. Knowing that she could not win, she took out the elixir and swallowed it immediately. The moment she drank it, she flew out of the window and up into the sky. Chang E's great love for her husband drew her towards the Moon, which is the nearest place to the earth on the heaven.

On realizing what happened to his wife, Hou Yi was so grieved that he shouted Chang E’s name to the sky. He was amazed to see a figure which looked just like his wife appeared in the Moon. He took the food liked by Chang E to an altar and offered it as a sacrifice for her. After hearing that Chang E became a goddess, folk people also offered sacrifices to Chang E to pray for peace and good luck. Since then, the custom of sacrificing to the moon has been spread among the folklore.

Taking a break.

The kids are playing nicely and loudly all over the house. I have a ton of things to do. Laundry underway and sorted all over my bed. Need to make cup cakes for Luk's Birthday tomorrow. It's time to think about dinner. But...I'm pinned down with my gingers so the chores will have to wait.

Bike Show

Eric and his friend Bill are all about motorcycles. Today they were off to a classic Japanese bike show. They took Luk. Who declared the day was awesome. It's possible he liked the food truck poutine best though ;)
