Genetic Testing

Applications have gone in three times for Kai to get Genetic testing.  He was denied twice with letters mailed to us.  His pediatrician applied again and we got an envelope yesterday that was thicker than the usual rejection letter.  He's finally been approved for testing! 

We have no clue what this entails.  I'm guessing needles will be involved and Kai won't like that.

I do know that if progress was made in treatment he would be notified if he was properly diagnosed and registered.  Not the biggest deal overall except where it pertains to his eyes & vision.  Also might help him keep services or get services and support through school.

Fun Fair

Another year at Fun Fair.  Eric was there for set up and then helped a bit with food.  I did two hours and Lili and Fei did an hour of cake walk.  Thanks girls!  Jia had a riot.  Eric gave her a handful of tickets and she took off running.  The boys aren't quite as interested.  Every time I saw Kai he looked less than thrilled but Eric got a picture of him in a police cruiser and he looks very happy.  Luk debuted his wheelchair so he had fun with that.  His friend Yuyu said "you got a new stroller" and Luk said "actually Yuyu it's a wheelchair".  Cute.  He was managing to manouver ok on the flat areas.  Interesting to watch him.  Normally I watch him like a hawk.  Always  mindful. Worried he'll be knocked over because he goes down hard very easily.  When he's in the chair he's steady.  Moving where he wants without fear.  He did get stuck a couple times but there was always another kid around to help. Extremely encouraging to see!  His pediatrician was pleased to see him in the chair.  Only a few people asked Eric about the chair. 

It was so nice to see a more independent Luk.  I think we're all going to like this chair! 

We made the trek to our campsite after Fun Fair and when we got here Luk crawled right into bed with his clothes on. One tired little guy.  Kai managed to get jammies on before he got in bed.  He layed down and was grinning!  He likes camping!! Yay.

Lili has brought homework.  Boo.  She has declared the park her happy spot.  Hopefully she can find a moment or two for some fun.

He touched every part of the police cruiser!

Tayrex

Eric and I stopped for lunch at Transfer Beach today.  After our peaceful, quiet morning.  We ate at the Tayrex food truck.  Mexican.  We shared nachos and a burrito.  Most excellent.  Looking forward to going again to try out the other options!  Finally good food in the park.  Anyone want to meet up there?

25th Wedding Anniversary

Yay us! 

We're having a night away.  Hurculeon efforts to co-ordinate this week.  Thanks to Mom, Dad, Lili and Fei working together to get us a night off.

We're actually camping alone.  No kids.  No dogs.  We barely know what to do with ourselves.  Dinner out.  Evening stroll.  Now Eric is finding a movie for us while I blog.

We're back home tomorrow in time to pick up kids from school and then moving onto fun fair.

Low Vision Clinic

Kai went for a few hours today and met with a team visiting our school district today.  Looking for ways to help him in the classroom.  It was a very interesting day.  He did ok for most of it.  He has a short attention span so he had to be directed back to task often.  He did a fair amount of pretend snoring with his eyes closed.  His way of tuning out.  He does it to me fairly often ;)

There was a woman there from Taiwan who was able to help with directions in Mandarin.  He was responding to her in Mandarin. 

We came away with a few adaptions for him to take into his grade one class.  A slant board for reading.  Magnifying glasses.  Scratch pens in black that can be erased because he can't see pencil marks.  And most importantly a pair of sunglasses that fit over his glasses.  His whole body changed and he lifted his head up and looked around and announced loudly and clearly that "I like this!".  So he wasn't squinting and was able to see outside on a bright day. 

He liked snacks the best of course.
