Fei's last art project. She needed to depict black lives matter. She had no clue where to start, I told her my favourite diversity picture was the one with all the different colored labs. She said Isabel is black and Esmei is white and her idea grew from there. I love this photo!! I can't even begin to imagine how she got them to stand in this order. Cats in general are uncooperative, Esmei even more so. How did she even get Coco to stand still?! Amazing.
Eric is attempting to get the bathroom downstairs functioning so that it will be easier for the social distancing during the grad party. I came home to find him balanced precariously trying to drill a hole for a vent. Crazy man. The downstairs bathroom is now plumbed, the electrical is done the drywall is up and it's a fully-functioning room. It's just not pretty yet. We're running out of time so not a priority for today.
This pretty little Miss has discovered that if she sits in front of my computer she gets all of the attention. I have the cutest co-workers ever.
When you finally rate enough to get your own bed at work.
Stepping way out of Lili's realm of comfort. We went for pedicures this morning. To say she was unimpressed would be an understatement. Four seconds in and she was out of there. I made her stay. Her toes are now pretty for the gown/sandal experience. She picked her gown up. Had her brows done and got her hair cut. She has GASP spent time looking at hairdos. Hanna is hired to come next Saturday and do hair and makeup.
Stepping way out of my comfort realm Eric and I went shopping for deck furniture. I'm not keen on spending money for things that will just be in the sun and rain disintegrating. I've justified this by using the money that would have gone to pay for our dog sledding adventure. It seems so impractical. Especially being black but I am wildly excited about our new outside living room. We got different chairs than the ones shown and a different, bigger orange umbrella.
Why what is this did you ask? Yes well it's a piece of our car that one of our lovely local drug addicts ripped off the side of the door while trying to get in our van today. Yup.
When Eric went around to the other side of the van to get the man out of our car he noticed him throw something on the ground and thankfully picked it up because you can see where it fits. Eric is pretty sure he can just glue it back in. Crazy. The man was asking me if he could get in our car. I was telling him no, please get out and when Eric came to get in the car I had to say there's a gentleman getting in the car and Eric as calmly as you can possibly imagine went around to escort him out and spoke softly and kindly to him. Amazing. What a sad sad world. I wasn't feeling terribly threatened. More confused. We were at the back of Jysk picking up our deck furniture.
Bill came by this afternoon to help Eric put the glass into the restored railings. Restoring the railings has been a considerable amount of work. So when you're over please praise Eric on how beautiful they are. They look new.
The boys aren't able to manage flip flops. Every year we try again. It just would make life easier for travel, packing, kayaking, hotels, pools and beaches. Today was the first day that Luk managed to wear them. Kai declined even trying.
Once the commitment was made for the outdoor couch, tables and chairs we went ahead with the new umbrella too. It's a lovely orange and I couldn't love it more. I thought the price was reasonable turns out that's because it didn't include weights. It simply falls over without them.
Eric ran to town tonight after dinner to pick up the four weights those beauties are cast and $50 each. Yikes. It's all going to be worth it when I spend the day outside in the shade on the couch on our beautiful new deck with a proper gate holding in my Chihuahuas. The gate...haha..."Eric, not today, but one day when you have time, could you build me a proper gate, one that will hold in Chihuahuas, let cats pass through, hold Isabel out, allow cats to jump up on, easy for kids to open, tricky for toddlers to open and fit here with another latch to hold it open?". Good thing he loves me. This morning while I was getting a pedicure he figured out the posts and mounting and built/sanded and painted them. He's asked for a drawing of my vision for the actual gate.
Luk was sent home on Friday after having an allergy attack. Hay fever. For real. Principal and teacher both think seasonal allergy but are being overly cautious. Kai too because of contact. They have to be away for 10 days or do a covid test. Eric declined a test and said they could just be done for the year. Only three days left so no big deal. However Luk was pretty upset. Many assurances later that he did nothing wrong, it was just hay fever, definitely NOT SICK, definitely not covid and definitely not going to die. Kai couldn't be happier. Jia has already figured since she has contact that she is done too and she is also delighted.
Lili accepted her room offer. We're going Monday to have a tour. It's official, she moves out Sept. 1. Sob. So happy for her though.
