We went to emergency today for wound care and bandage support. There were five people in the waiting room so we thought it wouldn't be too long. Omg. 4 hours. People just kept coming in with serious issues. They kept being triaged ahead of us. Honestly the strife, pain and drama in an emergency room is quite a lot to deal with.
The wound care nurse wasn't available so we waited for a Dr. She of course had never seen one and was unfamiliar with what he needed. I brought up a picture from day 2 and she took off to a surgical ward and came back with the necessary replacement pieces.
The issues today are that he needed to have his temp cecostomy replaced a while ago and now Children's has canceled the date we had for the end of March. Which was already late. Now they aren't even rebooking until into April. So knowing his butterfly attachment had already let go on one side we knew we needed a better solution.
It wasn't so great to start with today and while waiting we were discussing the logistic of Eric whipping him to Children's. At one point she had the sticky part of a bandage directly stuck to the wound. I think Eric and I were both itching to smackbher hands away. Thankfully the Dr. heard us and corrected the situation and managed to score the right bandage from the surgical ward.
The nurse we had a couple weeks ago was there. She came to check on Luk. The Cowichan hospital is trying.
In the end he's set for a bit. The wound is looking good. And the Dr. is setting us up with home care.
We're home. We need naps. I'm worried about a few people we saw in there today. There is no recap later. The staff there are not paid NEARLY enough. I can't imagine how they deal with so much stress in a day.
