A new eye specialist.

We took Kai to see his regular guy.  Who I don't care for.  His bedside manner is truely awful.  He REFUSES to write anything helpful for the school district.  Who in turn say Kai isn't visually impaired because the letters don't give any specifics.

The thing is, Kai's vision hasn't really changed.  His prescription remains the same.  It is extremely difficult to pin point because he can't get through the tests.  Doesn't know his letters well enough, largely is just guessing. He doesn't know what the pictograms are.  He gets bored.  He answers silly things for a laugh  However his field of vision is narrowing but we don't really have definitive numbers because intellectually he can't manage the test that would give us the numbers to prove his field is narrowing.  ALL people with pigmentosa retinitis have their field of vision narrowing.

Anyways, when we got there yesterday they gave us the new guy.  He was fabulous.  I told him the issues.  He was great with Kai. And he wrote the letter right there with us.  Stating that his vision is narrowing it's imperative that for success he have natural and bright light environments that dim light is black blind to him and that there is no functional reason for him to wear glasses since he doesn't use his vision for any distance activities.  So moving forward Kai gets to choose whether he wears his glasses or not.
We had a lovely lunch at May Gold. Kai was thrilled to have time with us on his own.  Super happy to leave school early for lunch out and even happier when he realized he was getting Chinese food.  He actually was using his manners so it was a bonus lunch out for Eric and I too.

Oh, and when we left the eye dr and got in the elevator there was an older Asian couple with us.  She said Merry Christmas to Kai and he looked right at her and said "are you Chinese?".  It's the 1st time he has ever acknowledged being able to recognize another person as Asian.  I was shocked. We weren't even sure if he knew he was Asian.

Lili updates.  The laison at VIU has been sweet.  They are offering tons of support for Lili but they are not letting the other students know to ramp up safety and awareness.  Which is disappointing for sure.  She has an appointment with Nanaimo RCMP today and she asked for a representative from the school to come with her.  I'm picking her up today and taking her.

It's way too busy a day for this but obviously the sooner the better so today it is.

Today is Lili's gotcha.  We're doing the Christmas Train event this afternoon and then four of us are off to do the Jeep Cruise tonight.

Oh, oh, and the house keeper saga.  She was a total flake, or a scam.  I found her in a neighborhood group.  With references.  We did the back and forth and had time scheduled.  She contacted me to ask if we had a mop she would use.  Yes.  But Eric thought that was super weird.  I thought she maybe is short of funds.  Anyways then she reconfirmed time on Wed night for Thursday morning.  Thursday morning she asked if it was ok if she was half an hour late so she could take her dog to her Mom's so it wasn't alone.  Super weird and poor management of time but whatever.  An hour later she still wasn't here and we haven't heard from her since.  So if she was a scam, what the heck was the scam?  If she's a flake then we're just lucky we don't have to deal with her again.

Some of the kids and Eric were not happy that I branched out for help.  Everyone tells me to delegate, do less, drop some things but it's not that easy.  Having her come was causing me some anxiety and more anxiety for others in the family.  Which was surprising to me and not surprising at the same time.  Eric did get things rearranged so floors were cleared for her so honestly we're at least heading in the right direction.  Once again he says "see it's better to just do it ourselves". Ok, yes, but when??
