A quick search of 'Nanaimo Sexual Assault' brought up lots of links to the incident. Interestingly Eric found another incident reported in Nov that sounds a bit like the same guy. The RCMP constable we talked to told us that crimes of this nature are always repeated and they can escalate.
Lili is fine. Well, mostly fine. She has been careful to not be out on her own on campus. The rcmp did have concern that this could be targeted and wanted her to change her walking pattern. She will likely use the safe program at VIU next semester. We were told by the VIU staff that there only a handful of students that use the security guards for walks. A handful is like 5, so it is a largely unused service. We were also told that it's best to pre-arrange walks since it's not geared for quick service, which the university admits isn't ideal for students there in study groups, doing projects or doing the entertainment events on campus. They are short staffed, as is everyone. Lili is likely on campus two days a week for her last term.
