We escaped the insane asylum. A totally bonus impromtu night out for Eric and I.
I had a meeting scheduled at the school about Kai. I thought I knew what it was about and was preparing for battle. Eric couldn't come to be my muscle/support because he was home with Kai. I was wrong. It wasn't a big deal and I don't know why I had to go in. They wanted to talk about changing his designation from vision to complex medical. The issue I thought was going to be brought up is that we're allowing Kai to quit wearing his glasses. With the support of two different eye specialists. The school district visual person doesn't like this. At all. I would argue that in talking to her it is clear she has never dealt with pigmentosa rhinitis and gets things wrong for Kai. The glasses are to help correct far vision. Kai doesn't use far vision. He lives looking at everything up close. He has to remove his glasses constantly to see better. He also spends the bulk of the time looking over his rims. Putting the rims in his way of near vision. Causing lots of tripping and falling in new places. So at the end of the meeting I was still asked to send him to school in his glasses. I caved and agreed. But now that I'm home I'm thinking it really needs to be up to Kai. He's 12. He should do what works for him. Right now he hates the glasses and would rather not wear them. There is no medical, eye health reason to wear them.
When I got home I said to Eric "it's Friday night". Then I took a Christmas card to a neighbor. We visited for a while. When I got back home Oscar was parked out front and Eric was sitting on the porch. I asked where he was going. He said we're going to see the Panorama. Oh Yay!
He had set up dinner for the kids and we were set to go. He had my purse in the car already. Too funny. We were half way there before I realized I had a pj shirt on. Haha.
We called Shannon and Ken and they were able to escape too. So we drove to see the ship. I got some pictures. Then we went to Montanas. I finally got the apple, pecan, cranberry, feta, spiced pecan salad I've been craving for months. It didn't disappoint and the company was great.
She is so pretty.
You can see her in the harbor as you drive into Victoria. I read she is the largest ship to ever go in the Victoria harbor.
As long as we've lived here Eric has put up snowflake lights on the porch. They were old and done. So wee red and white ones intertwined went up this year.
When we were about 10 minutes from home Fei texted saying they all heard someone trying to get in the front door. She wondered if we were expecting anyone. She also said she couldn't figure out what Luk was saying. Something about the car looking like Lili's. Then Luk texted they were all scared. Oy. I looked on the 360 app and Lili was out in her car but near her place. I called her anyways and it was her. She wanted out after her exam and had came home to pick up things. She had eye contact with Luk and her and Kai said hello to each other. Everyone heard her locking the door as she left. Not someone trying to break in.
I asked if anyone thought to ask Kai what was happening. They didn't. Then Kai got out of bed, came to the top of the stairs and said "ya, Kai knew Lili was here". Hillarious.
We're all unclear on why Luk didn't just say Lili was here. Also why he told Fei and Jia he saw a car that maybe looked like Lili's when he actually knew that it was actually Lili. The mystery continues.
In the quest to just get any possible little things taken care of before it gets stupid busy in January and while I've got Eric in helping mode. I finally framed my lithograph and Eric hung it up in our bedroom for me. I love it. I also sat this morning and did some mending for Jia. Then I sorted all the xmas shopping and got ready for wrapping. I'm normally done this before the end of November. We also sorted, culled and dealt with everything from the moho bathroom. Cleaned the kitchen. Made breakfast and lunch. Did a couple loads of laundry. Sorted a weeks worth and put it all away. Forced Jia up. Read her the riot act about keeping her room tidy. It's not looking good for her part of the deal to get her room painted. There is always so much to do. When do the chores finally get done?
So we are not at all ready for January but Christmas is well in hand.
Lili did use the safety walk at VIU yesterday. The first walk was arranged by the VIU rep that has been helping Lili. She didn't use the system but just had a friend meeting Lili. So when she called the number to change the time of course the friend didn't know. So a mix up for sure. The call was confusing because the people on the phone were unclear about everything. We talked and decided possibly the person answering was new. Then both security people that walked Lili there and back asked why she needed the escort. Uh, because of the incident. The first one said "what incident? We have lots of incidents". When asked he said that there is maybe one student that uses the safety walk every three months or so. So while VIU is adament that they want Lili using the safety walk it clearly isn't utilized. The second security guard has been there five years and also said no one really uses the system.
Tonight Lili is coming home for dinner and we're going to head out after dinner to drive around and look at lights. Usually we drink hot chocolate in the car but this year we'll mask Kai and grab hot chocolate afterwards instead. Slight variation to the tradition.
