Kayak Trip #2

Another day trip. We packed a lunch and went to a wee beach. A little bit of heaven.

Kai helped Eric clear the beach. The kids played hard together on a group project. It's rare for Kai to stick it out.

I thought the water was great but kids thought it was still too cold. They're camping on Lake Cowichan for a week starting Monday! Will be long days if Eric can't get them swimming.

I'm not getting much camping in. Stuck home for the bulk of the week with the teens. Some back and forth. Girls working and a few appointments.

Look what we found on the side of the road for free. So cute.

Resting

Luk is in the big pool for the first time. There is a ton of squealing going on. I need to go watch and take a picture. But it's been a long busy active day and I'm resting with Oliver and Lacie. Sigh.

Girls and Bunnies together again.

May is here for a sleepover. The girls are totally hyped. The screaming and screeching has begun. They've been texting and calling each other for days leading up to tonight.

Kayaking!!

We had a riot. A new adventure. We all loved it. Christmas in July. Always great to find things we can all enjoy together.

I wasn't sure how it would go so we did a short jaunt. We didn't even pack food. Odd for us. We went to A & W after though and we were starving so it was better than ever.

Kids all want to go again tomorrow.

The kayaks seemed really great to us. Very sturdy and plush comfy.

We weren't sure how Jia would do and she fretted like crazy with fear of having her own boat and wanted Eric to tie her with rope to his boat. He put her in the water, shoved her off shore and she took off. Awesome. No hesitancy. All three girls were just paddling around waiting for us to get in and get going. Luk was with me and he started paddling immediately. Sometimes backwards, almost always too deep and in the way but he was working super hard. Occasionally we got things timed with me saying right and left and we moved swiftly for a few seconds now and then :) Kai was no where near coordinated enough to paddle so he got to relax. He was very excited and chatted loudly for a good half hour, calling out to all of us. Eric reported later that he had a hard time getting Kai to sit still. He's keen to go again which is great.

And she's off, just like that.

Thought we'd avoid BC Games events...nope...they were right across from us doing kayak races.

Kai and Oliver

Kai has had to learn about pets. He's gone from terror to mild interest to love. He watches them closely and is the first to notice when dogs want in or out. He leaps to open the door for them. Which normally is great but now there is a kitten that can't go out. Trying to teach Kai new things is difficult. He is an extreme routine guy. He does adore Oliver and laughs when he watches him play. Which makes me laugh and then Luk and Jia. We don't get out much. It's fun watching siblings enjoy watching each other learn and discover. Anyways. In an effort to keep Oliver safe with Kai I've been giving him more responsibility with him. So we have lessons on picking him up. Not jumping near him. Moving him out of cupboards and off tables etc. Today Kai came to report that "Ow-eh-er ith in a ot" translate Oliver is in a pot. And he was. Eric had put a soup pot down for Isabel. Too funny. I ran and got the camera and Kai was delighted. Later I'll give him the phone to show off the picture and tell the story.

Camping in the heat.

We had a little heat wave. Eric and the littles were at the campsite. Girls and I were back and forth. Work for them and a vet appointment for Walter. Have to admit I was pretty pleased to be home in the air conditioning.

On one of the days we all came out. Swam at home had some dinner then I took them back out. Circled back got the girls from work and enjoyed a cool night at home. This is admittedly an extremely weird camping year for our family. Happy the girls have jobs and take them seriously and still miss the days we were playing together.

Walter's appointment wasn't fabulous. His flaps were all healed nicely and he is free to eat kibble. However his disease was still massively flared. His mouth is fire engine red. They've asked us to leave it for three months then take him in. If he's still inflamed he'll need steroids for life. Which cause additional problems. Liver failure and diabetes. Poor little wussins. He is acting normal. He does love getting his soft meals up on the table while we all pet him and gush over him about how special he is. We let him eat up so the others will leave him alone. Oliver did not get the memo! He still thinks he's starving. Walter let's him share and even licks his head. Such sweetness.

A new friend.

Movie night.

Kai said no way he was going in the river. He normally does. He wasn't enjoying the heat.

Too hot to play.

Oh Oliver

Oliver still believes he's starving. It's sometimes difficult to eat near him. The littles can't control him or anticipate when he's going to land in their food. The other day he really was tenacious about trying to get their pancakes. So this was Eric's solution. Oliver didn't squirm too much he seemed to like watching the food being cooked.

Happy Birthday Eric!

Birthdays mid week aren't so great. He took Jia to the eye specialist in Victoria today. The boys went too. They scored lunch at the Purple Garden. One of our fave Chinese buffets. I was at work trying not to be jealous. It meant the girls needed to enlist Gramma to help with getting them to work.

After work Eric picked Doghouse for dinner. And of course most of them weren't very hungry after their lunch feast ;) The important part was that Eric didn't cook.

The littles were asking for a dollar store trip since it was a special day. I asked if they'd be shopping for their Dad and it was a resounding...no...for toys! Eric agreed so they were delighted. Lip gloss for Jia, army weapon set for Luk and as always cars for Kai.

I ordered a cake for Eric from the Chemainus bakery. You don't really choose so much as accept what he makes :) Boys had some already the rest of us will have some with snack later, except Jia who doesn't eat cake. Lili and Fei made a cake yesterday for him and I ordered and paid for the cake same day. Good communication. So we had cake last night too!

Kai has handled Eric's Birthday beautifully. He was a little overexcited about cake but so was I. Haha.

Victoria Pride Parade

Eric, Lili and Fei went the pride parade today. Mom and Debbie went to Victoria today too and they managed to find each other. Sounds like they had fun.
