Quiet Day

A much needed down day at home.  Most of us in jammies.  Naps.  The Troll Movie and the Angry Bird Movie.  With popcorn in the living room on the new big tv.  Luk says it's just like the theater.

Nachos for dinner!  Luk declared it the best meal ever.  Kai is all about any meal that involves dipping.  After the boys went to bed I picked blackberries while Jia played in the backyard.  Then we made blackberry crumbles.  Delivered one to Mom and Dad.

We ate ours warm from the oven with ice cream while watching Game of Thrones. Jia wasn't watching of course and she would never eat blackberry crumble.  She still doesn't eat baked goodies.  She had just berries.

Kai has been dry two days.  If we can make it through tomorrow perhaps we'll have the routine reset?!  They say three days for anything to be routine for kids.

Pretty great day.

The look!  She doesn't seem pleased about waking from her nap.

Tswassen Mills Mall

Mom and I took four girls to the Tswassen mall yesterday. We were meeting Susan and her girls. Getting our three Yongfeng girls together for the first time in 13 years.

We see both Abigail and Olivia regularly but they hadn't met.

So that was fun.

Great group of kids.

Nice to see Susan.  Mom's cousin met us there too.  Lot's of confusion and everyone taking off in different directions.  Kids don't need me for shopping.  Mom and I camped out on couches for awhile and just watched the activity.

For anyone wanting to go.  The shuttle to the mall worked great.  We'll go again.

The girls could have used way more time shopping. Fei's phone app says she walked 17.3 kms. Wow.

Virtual change room.

They did some great shopping.
Gramma bought Jia some super cute clothes for school.  Grade 3.  The last year to wear cute stuff I'm told.  Jia LOVED our choices.

Yongfeng girls together again!

10 days away from Gotcha day these three were together again for the first time in 13 years!

Kid's Day

Eric took the littles to the Forest Museum yesterday for kid's day. Sounds like they had a nice time.

Tears welling because he's not first but no actual tears reported. So sad.  We've got to learn this one.
This morning I served breakfast to Luk and Jia first and he didn’t react.  Then was super casual when I brought his. Progress.
Kai declined again.
I looked at this photo and wondered where Kai's freezie was. He'd already eaten it!  ;)

In other news.

We're having an icky week.

Kai has been out of sorts since the loss of the toy room.  Getting worse as we go.  Sliding behavior and this last week even resorting back to defiantly peeing on purpose when he is mad or jealous.

After a year of being potty trained I can't tell you how disappointed we are that this is the behavior he's reverted to.  He is six next month.  I've been trying to read about defiant peeing and it's not good.  Considered deviant.  Connected to mental illness.  Common with kids who have had multiple care givers and who've been adopted. Way too many stories from Mama's with teen boys ruining everything. We need this stopped as soon as possible.

The line in the sand has been drawn.  It's being made clear after a week of this that it HAS to stop.  So far he's only done it at home and he's only peed on his things.  Versus him peeing on everything of Luk's last year when he was doing this.

I've told him one more incident and he's getting diapers and the super yard XT.  Giant play pen.  He says NO to those things and seems unhappy about the prospect.

We're trying to catch him before he gets mad.  Sticking close at the trigger moments.

Trigger moments are mostly incredibly stupid like upset that Luk is brushing his teeth first.  Even though Kai was in the bathroom ahead of Luk but didn't think to do his teeth.  He doesn't even know how to brush his teeth.

Upset that Jia told Fei that Luk had her pen.  Ya' ... that level of insane.

So, we're not having fun with this phase. No picture taking going on.

The other trigger is every single time he isn't first.  So this week's work for all of us is making absolutely SURE Kai doesn't get anything first.  He cries every time and we need to break his thinking on this one.  School can not continue to cater to this need to be first and they really want him to cry less at school.

I do give him dinner first every night because if he's not first he cries.  So this week he's last.  Getting his plate with Eric.  It's not going well but he isn't sobbing alligator tears any more just sits and pouts on the verge of tears.  I worry he thinks he's not getting food.  Even though he's clearly not been deprived of food.  We feed him six times a day.  Makes me wonder if it's really always been about being first.

We're assuming he likes the attention.  Good or bad.  The sad thing is out of our five kids he already gets the lions share of our time.

Anyone ever have a kid who liked peeing on things when mad?  Advice please.  We need help.  It's a big issue.  I know I'll likely hear from a bleeding heart about over sharing and privacy for Kai and him needing more nurturing.  I assure you he is nurtured. He is loved.  We do consider his needs. And we really, really need him to stop peeing on things on purpose.  It's just a whole other level of gross.

Also the fires in BC are still raging and the smoke is here so we're mostly inside because of poor air quality.  Which sucks.  And it's hot out.  Super hot.  We're just not used to such heat here.

The insurance claim still isn't settled.  Eric is just moving forward.  Rebuilding the frame, post and beams.  Pulling miles of wires out.  Next he's doing the ceiling tile frame work and wiring for l.e.d. pot lights.  Thinking of changing the color on the walls.  Voting hasn't been done yet but it's looking like butter cream is the big girls choice.  I limited them to yellows, blue (as it already is) greens or off white shades.

Jia's Curls

Jia has been on me for three days to put curlers in her hair. I finally did it last night after her swim.

She just sent me this picture.  I think it was worth the time.

Now, how to keep her out of the pool?!

Lake Cowichan

Back to camping.  Mom, Dad, Penny and Hanna joined us Sunday.  Not all of us got in the lake ;)

Monday it was just us.  We packed a lunch and hiked to a private beach and from there we donned life jackets and swam to a little island.  We go every year, this was Jia's first time swimming to the island.  She was pretty excited.  Eric dragged the boys over with them floating on their backs.  I dragged Kai back.  Too funny.  At one point I thought he was sleeping.  And no camera on the island.

The trail in and out was pretty rough.  Boys did the trail and Eric had to help them both down the steeper part at the end to the beach.  Kai climbed out on his own using a crouch with his hands up the rocks.  Pretty impressive.  I found it tough going.  All three girls are part goat!

The girls and I came home after dinner because I work tomorrow and they were happy to get back to wifi.  The boys were just heading to bed when we left. They don't even know about wifi.

Wasn't a big picture taking day.
Kai got in water willingly.
The island.  Looks close but it's a decent swim to get there.  We talked about going around it this year but still too far for Jia and a bit much for Eric and I while dragging the boys. Kai floats well, surprisingly very calm just laying in the water.  Luk is rigged and tippy, not at all calm.
The S.S. Nelson
They needed jackets because they're headed back to the island.
Luk's turn for a little ride.
He was having a hard time.  Too hot and too cold. He wouldn't eat or drink.  He was babbling and zoned out.  We once again over did the day for Luk.  He rallied and did the hike out.  At one point Kai bumped into him on the trail and Luk yelled at him "watch out Kai! I'm delicate!".
