Vista Clinic

Is there anything sweeter than a baby after a bath?!

Nap time is nap time.  Note the puffy suit Jia got to appease the clothing police. Also...there are rats on her shoes!  Yes, I know it's really a mouse, but we're pretty good at pretending.

Look, she's as long as the scale!

The new waiting room, just LOADED in toys and English books.  Notice the mall in the background.

That's me in a back doorway to the Canadian Embassy.

Ah, medicals and paperwork are all done, time to play some more.

Pearl Market booty.  Including another darn suitcase to carry it all home.

Today was the babies medicals, no longer at the SOS clinic but in a shiney new shopping mall at the Vista clinic.  No Cdn. Drs.  Staff was all Chinese and the only one that spoke any English was the Dr.  As expected Jia is a healthy, happy and loud baby :)  She has a minor cold and she's teething.  Yup, we figured, the snot and drool was a dead give away.  She is 19lbs.  80% for height and 60% for weight.  The Dr. did mention that she was in particularily good health for an orphan baby.  Very strong, no delays.  Of course nap time is nap time no matter where you are.

After we left the clinic we drove straight to the Canadian Embassy, of course no one told us we would be doing that and it was dumb luck that both Inge and I brought all of our paperwork.  Then to our surprise we were allowed in!!  Just Inge and I but still.  And to be fair it was in a strange vestibule seperate from the rest of the building and there were only Chinese Military there and no one spoke English at all but still, actually got to step into the building this time.

We were dropped back at the hotel and all of us had a nap.  It was a rainy day so it was all good to just lay low for a bit.  Once we were all up we headed out for dinner at the Pearl Market.  We MUCH preferred the Pearl Market to the Silk Market.  Calmer, less pressure, more interesting items.  Lili and Fei LOVE market/bartering shopping.  Especially Lili who is really studying the process.  I'm thinking we need to head out once more and let her have a go at it.  Of course the problem being, she doesn't really want anything.  Jia doesn't seem to care where we are or what we're doing.  She was saying 'Hi' to everyone there tonight and blowing kisses to everyone who attentioned her.  Very sweet.

Tomorrow is the Great Wall.  I bought the girls rain coats and umbrellas for all of us.  We shall see how it goes.

There was a Dairy Queen in the basement, so to Lili's total delight she had two hot dogs and a chocolate shake for dinner :)  Mom managed after much debate to get steamed vegetables and rice.  Eric, Fei and Jia and I had curry that was awesome.

Thanks everyone on the votes for Fei's head piece, she's gone with the left.  Nicole, she'll be delighted to hear that Dixie voted :)

Questions;
The stroller is a 'Good Baby', orange, gray and black, yes it has a crotch/waist strap.  It folds down to a full proper bassinet and has a reversable handle so Jia can see me.  Large storage area.  Very cool for $45 Cdn.  We kept the box, so we can check it in as luggage.  Hopefully it survives, I really like it.

We'll use the baby carrier for the Great Wall.

Taxi's are a pain in Beijing.  Hard to get and prices are crazy high.  We barter if it's not raining and we have time.  Tonight when we left the market we were charged 150y.  The same distance earlier in the day was 16y.  The men driving here in Beijing all have some English and they will argue forever or just walk away.  I would think this will become a major problem for tourists and hopefully we'll see the system go back to the Govt.

Jia is eating a little of everything now.  She gets really excited when she sees her bottle, so we make them up and hide them until it's time ;)  She even looks longingly at other babies when they have one and says 'ahyum' and 'mummmammm'.  Very cute.  She doesn't care what bottle, what nipple, what consistancy or what temp.  Just give her the bottle!  She hums and grunts when she drinks.  I use the Chinese bottles in the room and she can down the whole thing in a couple mins.  I use the one from home when we're out because it lasts about 10mins giving her longer to calm down and get to sleep.  She almost always sleeps the moment she's finished her bottle.
